WI Report - Haywards Heath Foodbank

In January we had Peter Sargeant and Karen Rolinson from the Haywards Heath Food Bank come and talk to us. They explained how the foodbank, which is part of the Trussell trust, provides support for people in crisis. They aim to give them a box of food which is about a 3 day supply, they are also able to refer people to other support agencies if they feel this is necessary.

People are referred by local agencies and churches who become aware of people who need support. They are particularly trying to identify people who might be stuck at home on their own and in need of help. We can help with this in Scaynes Hill and surrounding villages. If you know of someone you think needs a bit of help please contact them on 07884 106719.

The foodbank has about 100 volunteers who help in various ways and they are also trying to reach out to people who are unable to go to Haywards Heath to collect some food.

The WI are going to support the Haywards Heath food bank this year and if you would like to help too please contact Karen Rolinson on 07884 106719 or info@haywardsheath.foodbank.org.uk If you become aware of a person or family who might benefit from help please let the Food bank know as well - we know our village and can help look after all our residents. All information is treated with confidentiality and diplomacy.

Next month - February 10th - we have Jackie Fry talking about Rag Rugging. Visitors are very welcome - 2pm in the Millard Hall at the Millennium Village Centre - more details from Sue 831786 or Fiona 891217

In December we had a fantastic Christmas lunch at the Bent Arms in Lindfield. They let us have the upstairs room to ourselves and served us a delicious lunch. There was much laughter and fun including a 'Secret Santa'.

Karen explained that sometimes if someone had lost their job or recently moved into the area they could find themselves in difficulties on a short term basis. They are keen to support people by helping them get referrals to other agencies that can help them. There is a need in Haywards Heath and the surrounding villages where families can be quite isolated.
