During the conversion of the M23 to be a Smart Motorway we received positive feedback for informing communities about potential disruptions to their journeys, so people could plan ahead. Highways England now wish to inform you of a full closure taking place on Thursday 19 May, Friday 20 May and Saturday 21 May on the M23 motorway, near Gatwick Airport, between junctions 10, 9 and 9A, the junction with Gatwick Airport South Terminal, to carry out surfacing works to the carriageway. This work will be carried out by Kier on behalf of Highways England.
Work begin work on Thursday 19 May to Saturday 21 May from 9pm until 6am. All works are weather dependent and subject to change. Additional signage will be in place.
• Thursday 19 May - Northbound offslip at J9
• Friday 20 May – Eastbound Gatwick Spur
• Saturday 21 May – Contingency, reduced to lane closures if possible.
Full closures will take place between 9pm and 6am and there will be clearly signed diversion routes in place. All closures are weather dependent and subject to change.
Diversion routes:
Thursday – Use M23 J10 onto A2011 then A23 Northbound for access to both terminals,
Friday & Saturday – Use A23 Southbound from Gatwick Airport onto A2011 to M23 Junction 10 for access to North & South bound M23.
