Community Website

Scaynes Hill Village

About this site

Scaynes Hill is a typical rural community in the SE of England and is home to various clubs, societies, faith groups and friendship circles who share common interests and are connected in many varied ways.  It is also the home to a considerable number of small local businesses.

This site hopes to maintain and increase the links both within Scaynes Hill and the surrounding area so making it easier for all of us to develop for ourselves the way of life and environment that we value.

This site has been started by a small group in response to the demand indicated in the results of the Scaynes Hill Village Plan Questionnaire published in January 2011.  It is intended to be open to all to submit items of news, articles or notices of events  via a simple form for publication on the website. We do ask that a name and e-mail address are given so that we can attribute each contribution and contact you in the event of any queries.  The Noticeboard (under Community) is intended to be used for the ‘advertising’ of secondhand goods and services/skills that are offered or required for little or no cost.

In addition there is an interactive Village Forum page where you can post messages or comment/respond to messages posted by others.  The Forum is divided up into a number of individual subjects to give it some structure but these subjects are only preliminary ideas which can be changed as indicated by the demand or feedback.  In order to use the Forums interactively we do ask you to register with an e-mail address.  Once you are registered you can change your own profile to suit how you wish to interact and even add a picture (Avatar). Each subject area will have a moderator assigned to it in order to monitor for any inappropriate material which would be removed.

Under Community there is a Business Directory of local businesses and we hope that you will consider referring to this when you are next looking for a builder, have central hearing emergency or are looking for someone to repair you car.  These businesses are part of our community and we feel it is important to support local business when we can.  There is also a bus timetable, rail planner, a page of useful numbers and links to other local organisations that may be of interest.

We also very much want to have your feedback and views on how you would like to see the site develop.  The site already includes facility for any club, group or society who do not have their own website to become a registered user with the added functionality to have a permanent web page on the site, which they can use to advertise events and promote their activities.  The Village Club, Scouts or Sustainability pages (under Community > Groups) are examples of how this can work.

A preliminary Website Group has been set up to act as the initial editorial panel to prioritise and screen items for potential inappropriate material.  However, we would like to achieve a good mix of village interests on this group so if you would like to be involved please contact us via the form.

We would also like to draw your attention to the website Terms & Conditions which we ask you to follow.
