A huge thank you to all those who responded to the second survey sponsored by the Scaynes Hill Sustainability Group, which was primarily focused on residents of Lindfield. However, as there were some additional questions specifically targeted to obtain more detailed information than the first survey, those who had participated in the first survey were also encouraged to complete the second. There were 258 responses, of which 38 were from those who had done the previous survey, meaning that there were 220 new responses. When combined with the previous 434 responses from the Scaynes Hill survey it makes a total of 654. Taking into account the household responses it can be said that the results represent the views of over 1,600 people (600 from Scaynes Hill and at least 500 from Lindfield with the majority of the rest from Haywards Heath).
The combined results show overwhelming support for a dedicated safe cycling and walking route to Lindfield and can be summarised as:-
Based on the responses it has been conservatively estimated that such a cycle/walkway could result in 67,000 return journeys per year giving rise to a potential annual reduction of 38 tonnes of carbon dioxide. It would also meet the 4 principal objectives of the Government's 2017 Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy, which are to double cycling by 2025, increase walking, reduce fatal and serious injuries to cyclists and increase the percentage of children walking to school.
A revised survey report covering the combined results, including a one page executive summary and an Appendix containing all the comments received has been prepared and is available for viewing and downloading by clicking on the appropriate buttons above. The previous version of this report based only on the first survey was sent to various key people at all levels of Parish, District and County Councils. As a result a working group has been set up consisting of Councillors from West Sussex County Council (WSCC), Mid Sussex District Council (MSDC), Lindfield Parish Council (LRPC) and Lindfield Parish Council (LPC) together with representatives from the Scaynes Hill Sustainability Group (SHSG). The purpose of this working group will be to try to find a way to progress this project, which will involve the major step of finding sufficient funding. We already have one encouraging response from Mid Sussex District Council, who have given the report to their Consultants working on the Local Walking and Cycling Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP). A draft LCWIP will be published for possible consultation later this year. What we can hope from this is that it may move our cycle/walkway to be higher on the priority list than it might otherwise have been.
We are aware that this survey may have raised expectations in the village and surrounding area so we will continue to make available information on any outcomes and progress via posts on the Village Facebook page and particularly on this website, so a separate page (link below) has been set up

We will update the above page from time to time so please let anyone interested know that this is where they can find the latest information, or they can contact the website administrator directly (details on the Contact Us page). If you would like to be kept informed each time there is an update please e-mail the website administrator, who will put you on a notification list.
